The Place
Seto is one of Japan's leading pottery production centers, having made ceramics for over 1,000 years. The word "setomono" has become a synonym for ceramics in Japanese, indicating the deep-rooted pottery culture of this region. ENGINEKO was born from this land.
The Clay
The reason ENGINEKO is unglazed lies in the earth itself.
Kibushi clay and gaerome clay, extracted from the geological layers of Seto, contain almost no iron, making them raw materials that allow for beautiful white firing.
The choice of material already determines the quality of the work.
The Kiln
The studio's kilns fire at the highest temperatures in Seto. This high heat enhances the beauty of the colors, but it's also a temperature just short of melting the pottery.
This makes it difficult to control, limiting mass production.
It is within this tension that ENGINEKO is born.

High-temperature firing leaves its mark on each piece. No two are alike.
This isn't a flaw; it's the kiln's voice. That's why each piece brings you a unique connection.
